Clare and Adam’s ‘Informal Vintage’ Emerald Green Music Themed Wedding by Rachel Joyce Photography, steelasophical
Happy Friday everyone and welcome to the weekend (well nearly!). I hope you have something fun planned for the next couple of days. It looks like the weather is going to clear up and the sun is going to come out again, so if you are off to a wedding or indeed getting married I hope the weather is kind to you. I am taking the afternoon off work tomorrow to have a late lunch with an old friend, I can’t wait! There will be good food, cocktails and plenty of catching up to do, what about you?
Clare and Adam are sharing their big day with us today and it’s a music themed wedding, after their love of the Smiths and Morrissey. With emerald-green as their main colour and lots of ‘informal vintage’ touches with the styling and clothing, it really is a stylish and quirky wedding. My favourite part has to be the Frank Sidebottom cake, Brilliant! Pictures by Rachel Joyce Photography.
It was totally personal and everything we wanted, family and friends took a back seat and didn’t interfere with the planning. The day was relaxed and informal, the weather was perfect and everybody just went with the flow.
Clare and Adam were married on the 7th of May 2016 at Stockport Town Hall. ‘A gorgeous historic building – We loved the building and it was in Adam’s home town. We had 82 day guests and 200 in the evening. We did little bits over the course of a year, we didn’t spend much time on it, it just seemed to come together easily.’
How they met
Adam caught Clare’s eye when she saw him playing guitar in a band (Viva Morrissey) in 2008. Later that same year we met at The Smiths and Morrissey disco at The Star and Garter pub in Manchester. The rest is history.
The Proposal
It was Friday 1st of May 2015. We went out for a meal before heading to the Star and Garter for the Smiths and Morrissey disco where we had first met in 2008. After the meal Adam proposed to Clare with a vintage diamond and white gold solitare engagement ring.
How did you allocate your budget?
The most expensive thing was the venue and food, then photographer, the rest was relatively inexpensive.
Where did you splurge and where did you save?
Adam’s shoes were a luxury but when we saw them we knew he just had to have them for the wedding. We didn’t really splash out on anything as we sourced most items over the internet, we designed all of the wedding stationary ourselves and had it printed up by online printers and we recycled 82 old vinyl records to use as plate chargers.
Why did you choose your photographer?
It was important for us to have a lasting record of the day, we wanted a photographer whose images we admired, so we felt it justified a large chunk of our budget, we looked at several photographers online and after initial inquiries it was obvious that Rachel Joyce was the one for us. She did a fantastic job on the day and did her job so efficiently that time away from our guests was kept at a minimum. The images we were presented with a few weeks later certainly didn’t disappoint!
The Dress
Clare bought her dress online from ASOS wedding collection. She bought her shoes from a seller on Etsy who will customize shoes to however you want them. The wedding bouquet was bespoke fabric flowers and vintage brooch by online seller Love is Vintage.
The Suit and Bridesmaids
Adam’s suit was from NEXT. Bridesmaids had 1950’s style dresses with net underskirts and posies of gypsophelia.
Theme or Colour Scheme
We liked a vintage informal look with emerald green being the accent colour. We tied this together with Clare’s green shoes, green Bridesmaid’s dresses, Adam’s tie and table accessories.
Flowers
Clare had a bouquet of fabric flowers in cream champagne and emerald green with some diamante brooches between the flowers. The Bridesmaid’s had gypsophelia posies which complemented the gypsophelia on the tables.
Decoration
Gypsophelia in an assortment of different vessels i.e. vases, teacups and tealight holders. We had emerald green letters on the top table saying “Mr & Mrs”. We had a vinyl record theme for the place settings with a vintage vinyl record as a plate charger and vinyl record shaped name cards, we also gave the table names Morrissey and The Smiths themed names.
Food
We had a vegetarian afternoon tea.
Wedding Cake
It was a huge chocolate cake made to look like Frank Sidebottom’s head.
Entertainment
We had our friends taking turns to play vinyl records on the stage before a stripped back acoustic version of Adam’s band Viva Morrissey played a small set of songs which went down very well as half of the guests we big Morrissey and The Smiths fans like us.
Stationery
We used various online printing companies for different items, we felt that this provided us with a cost effective yet completely personal product.
Personal Touches
We found vintage film noir style photographs online to fit the titles of our guests tables.
Advice For Other Couples
Remember that it’s your day and don’t let other people interfere with the planning. Try not to stress out as this can spoil the whole process. Relax and enjoy the day.
Biggest Surprise
Receiving a personal message from Morrissey’s guitarist and musical director Boz Boorer congratulating us on our special day was a great surprise.
